Our History

Founded in a small village between West Sussex and Hampshire, from where its name derived, Southbourne Rubber has been a prominent in the manufacture of industrial rubber since the 1970s.

After a move to Waterlooville in 1995, Southbourne Rubber Limited has been registered and building lasting relationships with key customers from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and aerospace industries, including Thales and Rolls Royce. The expert rubber manufacturers are also approved suppliers of the following: BAE Systems, Airbus, GE Power, Magnox Limited, NATS Limited, Babcock International, Bombardier, Leonardo, Ultra Electronics, QinetiQ, Meggitt, Raytheon UK and JOSCAR.

Since 2016, Southbourne Rubber has been part of The West Group Ltd, a privately owned company specialising in the design and supply of fluid components to the medical and scientific markets. The West Group has been providing products for the conveyance/direction of fluids and gases within the medical and other industries for over 40 years. The acquisition of Southbourne Rubber sets it in good stead to continue as a major contributor to these supply chains and grow the business further over the coming years.

Our Quality Statement

Southbourne Rubber is committed to quality and as such we are currently AS9001D certified, an international quality recognition. This means that we meet our customers’ expectations for the implementation of a formal quality management system. Southbourne Rubber’s quality processes are audited periodically to keep the company compliant.  This allows us to:

  • Continually meet our customers’ quality requirements
  • Increase the quality of our products
  • Maintain customer satisfaction with our products.

Southbourne Rubber has now achieved AS9100D certification.  This standard  combines the ISO 9001 requirements and supplements with additional quality system requirements established by the aerospace industry in order to satisfy DOD, NASA and FAA quality requirements. The aim of this standard is to establish a single quality management system for use within the aerospace industry and we are delighted to have completed our certification in 2018.

We are RoHS compliant (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals compliant (REACH).

Approval to work with these companies, which includes continual compliance with their individual quality requirements, allows us to supply into the supply chain that supplies them directly. Within this, we are able to provide Certificate of Conformity (CofC) – a document that shows our products meet each company’s required specifications – and Raw Materials Certification, which confirms that the materials used for Southbourne Rubber products have been tested and comply with each company’s requirements.

Boasting a fourteen-strong team of highly experienced and skilled individuals spanning 50+ years of combined experience, Southbourne Rubber knows a thing or two about getting the job done. Offering the complete manufacturing package here in Hampshire, UK – from design through to manufacturing with quality assurance throughout – Southbourne Rubber delivers a fast response and a personable service you can trust.
Everyone, from our production design engineers to our customer services support team, is here to deliver the finest rubber technology and industrial rubber solutions to the highest British standards – project after project. Since 2016, Managing Director Stephen Wilde – who has a background in electronic engineering and IT and over eight years’ experience in business management and technical materials – has headed up the Southbourne Rubber team.
Joining the Southbourne Rubber family at the same time as our new parents The West Group took over, Stephen was tasked with creating a five-year business plan to present to the board in his first year.
On top of all the usual business ideas for stabilisation, growth and expansion, he suggested the use of the technology, knowledge and experience they already have in-house to make a new and exciting product. This product was Miband, an innovative ring made in the UK from silicone rubber, which launched in April 2017.

Stephen is involved with running all aspects of the company from sales, marketing and analysis to production techniques, materials, work patterns and quality control.

We have enough spare capacity available in-house to make sure priority jobs will be processed quickly and efficiently and a comprehensive stock of uncured compounds allowing us to always hit the ground running. From discussing your exact requirements to designing and manufacturing your rubber parts to packing in accordance with BS3F69, the Southbourne Rubber team is ready to jump into action.

There’s no need for that middle-man, you can deal with a dedicated team member and point of contact that will work on your account and see your work processes through from start to finish.
